The Lone Star EMMY Chapter proudly offers a Sports Broadcast Scholarship Program to high school and/or college/university pursuing a career in the television industry with a concentration in Sports Journalism. The Lone Star Emmy Chapter is an organization dedicated to connecting professionals and students in Texas’ television broadcast-related fields for networking and career development.
This is a partnership with longtime Dallas/Fort Worth Sports Broadcaster, Scott Murray and The Lone Star EMMY Chapter.
For three decades, Scott was the Sports Director/Anchor on the local NBC nightly news in both Dallas/Fort Worth and Washington, DC. In addition, he served as a television host of countless TV specials, radio host of several programs, master of ceremonies at thousands of live events and charity galas, as well as both keynote speaker and moderator at hundreds of corporate conferences and industrial conventions.
Scott Murray_Scholarship Press_2022Lone Star EMMY Chapter will award a scholarship of up to $2,500 to a qualified student chosen by our Scholarship Committee.
To be considered for a scholarship, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Student must be in good standing (not on academic probation) with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Student must have an interest in Radio, Television, Film; Broadcast Journalism; or related major.
- Student must submit at least two letters of recommendation from faculty, employers or internship supervisor.
- Student must submit a 3 page essay responding to these questions.
- Why did you select the television industry as your career choice?
- In what television/related activities have you participated whether in school or outside of the classroom?
- What is your ultimate career goal?
